BTC Resolution on Civil Rights and High Stakes Testing

The Badass Teachers of Color categorically rejects the idea that the current practice of annual, high-stakes testing of public school students advances the cause of Civil Rights and will lead to better instruction and greater achievement for all  students, especially for students of color and those living in poverty

  1. If the Federal government wants to help children of color, then they should start with forcing those 49 states spending more money on wealthy schools than poor schools. The only standard that matters to children of color, the poor, and every child is equity. As long as United States Department of Education turns it's head the other way when inequity dominates our public school system it is our children. Forcing poor schools to compete with each other is not equity. It is a dog eat dog policy that hurts poor communities.

  2. We are slowly but surely ensuring a nation of citizens unable to think critically or to make decisions unless they are presented in multiple-choice format.
