This Time They Went Too Far: A Poem

This time 
They went too far
It's one thing
to enrage teachers,
parents and students, 
But now Cuomo 
and his buddies
have offended 
entire
school districts.
We are not
East Germany
or Fascist Italy, 
At least not yet
An old fashioned 
attachment to
local government
and parent rights
still exists, 
along with 
suspicion of 
concentrated wealth 
and
centralized government power
Conservatives and Liberals
who hardly agree
on anything else
Can agree on that
So this game isn't 
over.
The fat lady hasn't 
sung.
And the thin lady hasn't
danced.
